The Boring Company’s next project might be to connect Universal Orlando properties to the new expansion, Epic Universe.

In a press release, the Shingle Creek Transit and Utility Community Development District announced that it had selected The Boring Company as the preferred contractor for their people-mover project. The tunnelling company was one of three that bid on the project; the other two proposed an elevated guideway system.

The goal of the new project is to connect different Universal parks and CityWalk to reduce traffic and make it easier for guests to visit all of the properties. However, the final route has not been confirmed and is still being consulted with local businesses and Universal Orlando.

The current project scope has three phases. Phase one will feature stops at Epic Universe and nearby hotels. Phase two will expand the loop to include Universal Studios, CityWalk and stops along International Drive. The final phase would extend the route toward Hard Rock Hotel and the surrounding retail area.

The next step is for officials to approach the Boring Company and start contract negotiations, which will include a deep dive by city officials on the operational and financial viability of the proposal. Once contracts are in place, a final construction timeline will be provided.
