Tesla releases AC power adapter for Model Y L in China

Tesla has officially launched the AC external power adapter for the Model Y L in China, enabling the electric SUV’s new Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability.

According to the Tesla Shop listing in China, the adapter is priced at only ÂĄ599 (C$118/US$84), but it is being offered free of charge to early Model Y L owners who did not receive one at delivery.

According to a notice sent to owners on November 10, 2025, Tesla accounts linked to qualifying Model Y L vehicles can log into the online store, add the adapter to their cart, and have the system automatically adjust the price to 0 yuan once ownership is verified. Tesla will then ship the adapter directly to customers by courier.

The offer applies exclusively to the first wave of Model Y L deliveries and remains valid until February 28, 2026. Tesla notes that those who do not claim the adapter by that date will forfeit the offer. The company also advises that if inventory temporarily runs out, additional stock will be replenished before the end of January 2026.

To use the adapter, vehicles must be updated to software version 2025.32.300 or later, which activates V2L functionality through the car’s rear charge port.

The AC external discharge adapter allows Model Y L owners to power household electronics, tools, and appliances directly from their vehicle battery. Rated for 220 V and 10 A output, the adapter supports up to 2.2 kW of continuous power—enough to run small kitchen appliances, laptops, or lighting during outdoor activities and power outages.

This new adapter is different than the current Outlet Adapter, which enables V2L on the Cybertruck in North America. That adapter requires a Mobile Connector, while this new adapter plugs directly into the charge port for a seamless experience.

The addition of V2L support for the Model Y L in China will be followed shortly by the launch of the Model Y Performance in the U.S., which also support V2L capability. Deliveries of the Model Y Performance are expected to begin in the next few weeks.

As we told you over the weekend, Canadians will have to wait until early 2026 to be able to order the Model Y Performance.
