Tesla announced with its quarterly update in August that Kamloops would be getting a second Supercharger station next year.
The new station is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2022, and unless someone beats them to the punch, it will be the first Supercharger located on First Nations land in Canada.
Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc business and economic development manager Devin Gambler confirmed this week that the Supercharger will be located at the Petro-Canada gas station at 301 Southern Yellowhead Hwy.
Gambler told Kamloops This Week that it will be an 8-stall V3 Supercharger, and confirmed construction will begin in the spring of 2022.
It will be located about 7-minutes away from the existing V2 Supercharger which expanded from 4 to 6 stalls last year.
The idea for the Supercharger on Tk’emlúps te Secwe̓pemc land came after Gambler reached out to the City of Kamloops upon hearing they wanted to encourage electric vehicle (EV) adoption. The city recommended they contact Tesla, and they were successful in getting the automaker to build a second station in Kamloops.
