Volkswagen ID.4 production for Canada begins in Chattanooga

There is some good news for Canadians waiting to finally receive their Volkswagen ID.4. The automaker announced today that their new facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee has started production of the 2023 model year ID.4 for Canada.

The manufacturing facility first started producing the ID.4 in the US in July, before quickly switching to model year 2023 production in August, but so far all of that production has been reserved for the US market.

With Chattanooga now producing Canadian ID.4 vehicles, VW will be able to supply all provinces with the electric SUV. The first deliveries are expected to begin before the end of the year.

Along with the start of production, VW Canada confirmed with Drive Tesla that they will also be reopening their ID.4 order books in Canada soon. A VW spokesperson said dealers have begun notifying customers already on their list, and they will open their ‘Volksclick‘ portal for online orders on either Thursday or Friday this week.

The automaker stopped taking orders for the electric SUV in March as demand outpaced the limited supply of ID.4’s coming from Europe.

There are a number of changes for the 2023 model year. Perhaps the biggest is the introduction of a new smaller 62kWh battery option that lowers the price of entry to the ID.4.

The ID.4 comes in three trim options. The ID.4 Standard is the one with the new 62 kWh battery, which provides an estimated range of 336 km and starts at $43,995.

The ID.4 Pro RWD  ($47,995) continues with its original 82 kWh battery that allows for an estimated range of 443 km.

ID.4 Pro AWD models start at $52,995 and add an asynchronous motor to the front axle, delivering an estimated range of 410 km.
