Volkswagen Canada stops taking ID.4 orders as demand outpaces supply

The Volkswagen ID.4 has proven to be a popular choice among Canadian electric vehicle (EV) buyers.

The automaker’s allotment of 2021 and 2022 models have already been sold. As a result, Volkswagen has announced it is no longer taking orders of the ID.4 electric SUV in Canada.

Ongoing supply chain issues, as well as production delays at some of their factories were cited as the main reasons for the change.

“There’s a lot of excitement for the ID.4. So much so that all 2021 and 2022 models in Canada have already been sold.

However, due to global supply chain issues and production delays in some of our plants, we regret to announce that we are no longer taking orders on ID.4 models at this time.”

In an update to their online configurator, VW says customers can sign up to be alerted when 2023 model year orders open up.

VW is hoping to shift production of the ID.4 from Europe to their new facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee later this year.

The additional supply will hopefully increase availability of the ID.4 in North America, but given the pent up demand for the electric SUV, it will likely take a while for them to work through the backlog of orders.
