Tesla starts massive R&D talent search in Shanghai

Tesla China announced that the company is on the hunt for research and development talent at its Shanghai facility.

Tesla posted multiple job postings to its official WeChat account on Monday. The jobs are mainly for engineers and designers in multiple areas.

Interestingly, the areas include: (via Global Times)

  • Vehicle software
  • Hardware design
  • Power and energy engineering
  • Battery management
  • Safety testing

All jobs are based in Lingang New Area of Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone.

Giga Shanghai and the newly created Research, Development and Innovation Center and Gigafactory data centre call this area home.

Elon Musk confirmed back in May that Tesla was not planning to open a second factory in China at the moment. However, he did confirm that Tesla will expand the scale of Giga Shanghai over the short and medium-term.

The company continues to push the envelope on what they can produce at Giga Shanghai. Even with a 22 day COVID-19 shut down back in March, the factory is producing cars at an impressive pace. In fact, between April 19 and April 30, the production line produced 10,000 complete vehicles.

Tesla insiders also believe that Tesla China will finally premiere the Tesla China-only model in 2022 or 2023. So, this new batch of research and development talent could be working on this new project or with existing Tesla models.
