Tesla signs lease for a huge Sales and Service Center in Shanghai

Tesla has signed a lease contract for a massive sales and service center in Shanghai. The facility is located in the Shanghai industrial park, administered by the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone Group.

The property measures 86,000 square feet. It will have the advantage of being in the biggest industrial park in China. Tesla plans to open it in Q2 or Q3 2023 after developing it, as Reuters reports

The Chinese subsidiary of the American EV maker operates about 300 stores in China. However, Tesla reportedly considered closing down some showrooms in Beijing and other cities in upscale malls.

Tesla celebrated its 2-millionth China-made car last month.

Tesla says it wants to focus on stores that are less expensive to run in suburban locations. This will enable the stores to enhance their customer service, in line with CEO Elon Musk’s goals.

Apart from opening a new service center, Tesla recently released the updated Model Y in the Chinese market, one of the largest markets in the world. The Chinese subsidiary increased its local deliveries by an impressive 87.5 percent in August.
