Tesla preparing to release illuminated door sills for the Cybertruck, and more

Tesla is apparently working on several new accessories for the Cybertruck, including illuminated door sill plates, according to a recent trademark filing by the company.

The Cybertruck has a unique design, so unique that there isn’t a single Tesla logo anywhere on the truck’s stainless steel body. On the inside there are a few locations where Tesla has added some Cybertruck-specific mentions, like having the triangle logo on the airbag of the steering wheel, or squircle, as well as including the graffiti-styled Cybertruck logo in the frunk, and also on the door sills.

It looks like owners may be able to soon swap out those door sill plates for a new illuminated version.

On March 1, 2024, Tesla filed a trademark application for the stylized Cybertruck logo covering the categories of “illuminated door sill trim plates for automobiles [and] illuminated door sills for automobiles.” (h/t: @andre4fink)

The application also covers “fitted liners for the cargo area of vehicles” and “cargo storage bins specially adapted to fit in cars.” However, Tesla already has carpet and all-weather floor liners for sale, neither of which feature the stylized logo. The company also recently released cargo bins, which also don’t have this logo, suggesting a few more accessories may be in the pipeline.

It is worth noting that it is not uncommon for a company to file patent and trademark applications for products that will never make it into production. However, given the fact Tesla already has illuminated door sills on their online shop, it would only make sense for them to also offer them for the Cybertruck.

According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Tesla filed the application on March 1, and as of the time of writing has not been assigned for review.
