Tesla Model Y spotted at testing facility hints at imminent Indian launch

Photos of the Tesla Model Y in a testing facility in Mahindra, Pune, have been circulated online, hinting at an imminent launch in India for the electric crossover.

According to Carversal, the testing might indicate Indians will be able to buy the Model Y in a matter of months. The Mahindra testing facility allows automakers to test for many of the driving conditions in India in a single location with its numerous testing ranges. Also spotted in the photos is the Mahindra XUV700.

The Model Y in the photo is finished in grey, with a black interior. If the reports are accurate, the 5-seater Model Y will be Tesla’s first car officially on sale in India.

Giga Factory in India has been rumored. Still, authorities claimed Tesla would not receive any special privileges, a big deal for the company that tries to get as many investment incentives as possible when citing its factories.

That, however, hasn’t stopped CEO Elon Musk from promising significant investment soon in India, with plans for local manufacturing, per the Indian government’s request. Earlier this month, Tesla leased office space in Panchshil Business Park, Pune.
