Tesla giving away Model 3 Performance through the referral program [Update]

Tesla is once again giving away free cars through the referral program, adding a new award today giving owners the opportunity to win a brand new Model 3 Performance. The raffle is unfortunately not open to Canadian owners, and appear to only be available in the US.

According to the product description found in the mobile app, each entry into the draw will cost you 1,000 credits. Multiple entries are allowed, so that means you could enter up to 10 times with a single referral, now that all referrals are worth 10,000 credits.

We won’t have to wait long to find out who the winner is, as Tesla says one winner will be selected at random on October 6, 2023. If that happens to be you, you will be responsible for paying taxes and fees associated with winning the car, so it won’t be entirely free. (h/t: @mahkusg)

UPDATE 11:35am PT: Tesla says on the referral program support page that you can also earn an entry by referring someone who takes delivery of their new vehicle by September 30, 2023.

Starting September 19, 2023, if you refer a friend and your friend places a new Tesla vehicle order and takes delivery of that vehicle by September 30, 2023, you will be entered for a chance to win a Model 3 Performance. You can use your referral credits to redeem additional entries.

This isn’t the first time Tesla has given away free cars through the referral program. In its previous iteration Tesla said it would give away a Model Y to one lucky referee every quarter. Tesla didn’t publicize the winners however, leaving many to question whether they were actually following through and giving away the car. However there were a few that came forward, like a couple from California who beat the odds by winning a Model Y with just one referral.

This also isn’t the only vehicle Tesla is giving away through the referral program. The company is also raffling of one of the first Cybertrucks (but again, not for Canadians). When that raffle was launched back in May, it cost 500 credits to enter, but now that price has increased to 1,000 credits to match the Model 3 Performance sweepstakes.
