Tesla is celebrating the first anniversary of Full Self-Driving (FSD) in Australia and New Zealand, revealing that drivers have accumulated more than 160 million km using the advanced driver assistance system. Alongside the milestone, Tesla has released new safety data showing significantly fewer reported collisions compared to manual driving with Active Safety features enabled.
The milestone was announced through Tesla’s official Australia and New Zealand account on X, with the company noting that the distance is equivalent to approximately 4,000 trips around the Earth. Spread across the first year, that works out to an average of more than 438,000 km driven with FSD every day.

Tesla also releases FSD safety data
Alongside the mileage milestone, Tesla has published new safety statistics covering September 17, 2025 through September 16, 2026. During that period, Tesla vehicles accumulated approximately 160 million km with FSD engaged, compared with roughly 2.4 billion km of manual driving in Teslas equipped with Active Safety features.
According to Tesla’s published safety data, vehicles operating with FSD recorded one major or minor collision every approximately 1.78 million km. During manual driving with Active Safety, that figure was one collision every approximately 1.07 million km.
That translates to a reported collision rate approximately 40% lower when FSD was engaged.
Tesla also reported reductions across several other driving events. Automatic emergency braking activations were approximately 66% lower with FSD, occurring once every 17,432 km compared with once every 5,989 km during manual driving.
Harsh braking events were approximately 90% lower, while harsh acceleration, lateral manoeuvres and horn activations were reduced by approximately 86%, 76% and 80%, respectively.
Tesla’s safety data has also attracted attention from the insurance industry. Zurich Australia will offer lower insurance rates for owners with FSD.
While Tesla has released FSD in Australia and New Zealand, it is currently only available on cars with Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4). Owners with the older HW3/AI3 self-driving computer are still waiting for the release of V14 Lite, which Tesla says is currently in active development, but no official release date has been announced.
