Southwest Rolls Out Starlink Services for the First Time

A Southwest flight bound for Albuquerque, New Mexico, became the first of its fleet to operate Starlink internet services while in the air.

The partnership between Southwest and T-Mobile will see Southwest Rapid Reward members enjoy free Wi-Fi during their flight, and the ability to stream 4K content and play live games. In addition to your normal movies, shows, and in-flight work, Southwest is also offering video calls for those on the move.

Non-Rapid Reward members will be required to pay a flat fee of $8 per device per flight to access the new internet service.

Starlink in-flight internet services are some of the fastest on the market and deliver a low-latency signal that means streaming content is not stuck buffering for hours on end.

Southwest is planning to launch the service in 300 of its Boeing 737 fleet by the end of 2026. The eventual goal will be a full rollout across their entire fleet of over 700 planes over the next few years. Until then, the Southwest legacy fleet will continue to offer Wi-Fi services from their other satellite internet providers Viasat and Anuvu. For Rapid Reward members, you will continue to receive free Wi-Fi no matter if you are flying an upgraded or legacy jet.
