Electric vehicle (EV) drivers in Ontario will soon be able to plug in at 17 new charging stations at ONroute locations.
First announced in December, ONroute is partnering with the Ivy charging network to install 69 DC fast chargers at 23 locations across Ontario.
The companies planned to open the first 17 station along Highways 401 and 400 before summer 2022, and construction is on schedule.
According to an update on the ONroute website, six should be turned on later this month. The remaining 11 opening in March.
A further 3 stations will open before the end of the year, with the final 3 opening in 2023/2025.
The charging stations will feature between two and four chargers with CCS and CHAdeMO connectors. The company has previously told Drive Tesla they will investigate adding CCS adapters once Tesla brings them to North America, which is expected to happen soon.
Tesla drivers will also be able to plug in with an adapter provided by Ivy at each station.
More tests show Tesla CCS adapter can reach charging speeds above 100kW
Editor’s note: The article has been updated to reflect that stations will feature both CCS and CHAdeMO connectors.
