Rivian has officially introduced the California Dune Edition versions of its R1T electric pickup and R1S electric SUV, after posting a cryptic teaser earlier this month about a product unveiling on February 19.
This limited-edition package is designed to take on rugged terrains with enhanced capabilities, exclusive styling, and premium features. However, this added capability comes at a premium price, with the Dune Edition R1T starting at $150,000 in Canada and $100,000 in the U.S.
Dune Edition Features
The Dune Edition features Rivian’s Tri-Motor system, boasting an impressive 850 horsepower and 1,103 lb-ft of torque, allowing for rapid acceleration and control in deep sand. These vehicles also come equipped with Soft Sand Mode, an optimized drive setting that enhances traction and stability on loose surfaces.
The Dune Edition isn’t just about aesthetics; it comes with significant off-road enhancements, including:
- 20-inch all-terrain wheels (available in a dark finish or a body-matched Dune exterior color)
- Underbody skid plates for added protection
- Full-size spare tire for extended adventures
- MAXTRAX recovery boards with a mounted storage system
- Powered tonneau cover (for R1T models) with a redesigned look
- Dark cargo crossbars for additional storage flexibility
The interior also gets a unique makeover with a special two-tone Sandstone finish. Additionally, the seats and floor mats are designed for easy cleaning.
Performance and Range
While Rivian’s Tri-Motor powertrain ensures blistering performance, the Dune Edition maintains an impressive 329-mile estimated range despite the rugged all-terrain tires. The 0-60 mph time of just 2.9 seconds makes it one of the quickest off-road-capable EVs on the market.
Premium Pricing for a Limited-Edition Model
The Rivian R1T Dune Edition models start at $149,900 in Canada and $99,900 in the U.S., while the R1S Dune Edition comes with a price tag of $158,900 in Canada and $105,900 in the US.
Where to See and Order the Dune Edition
Rivian plans to showcase the Dune Edition at major events, including SXSW in Austin, Texas, from March 6-17, 2025. Limited units will also be displayed at select Rivian Spaces across North America. Pre-orders are now open via Rivian’s official website, though production numbers remain undisclosed.
