The New York Police Department is showing off their first of 100 EV marked police units at this week’s New York International Auto Show.
The new EV is a 2022 Mustang GT Mach-E that has been customized for police use.
The police force plans to buy 1,250 EVs in 2022. As well, the police force plans to electrify the entire fleet by 2035.
The police vehicle includes ballistic door panels, window inserts, and electrical work to make the stock Mach-E police compatible.
In addition, the car features an LED message screen on the lightbar that an officer can customize from inside the unit.
The police car will make its debut in the next few weeks.
During the event, New York Governor Kathy Hochul also announced additional fast chargers were coming to the city.
The ten new fast chargers will go in at LaGuardia Airport as part of the New York Port Authorities EVolve NY fast-charging network.
As per previous announcements, the Port Authorities EVolve network will include more than 100 high-speed charging points throughout the state.
