IONNA is significantly expanding its footprint in the United States EV charging market, announcing a new partnership with Circle K that will bring high-speed charging to more than 350 locations across the country.

The partnership will see the automaker-backed charging network deploy its “Rechargeries” at more than 350 Circle K sites across the U.S., combining ultra-fast charging hardware with the retailer’s extensive footprint and amenities.

The first wave will focus on upgrading existing infrastructure, with roughly 85 current charging locations set to be converted, while additional sites will be built out at high-traffic stores.

Drivers can expect the first of these co-branded locations to begin coming online by the end of 2026, with a broader rollout planned throughout 2027.

IONNA, which was formed in 2023 by a consortium of major automakers including BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis, and Toyota, is attempting to position itself as a serious challenger in the EV charging space. The network is targeting the deployment of 30,000 high-power charging bays across the U.S. by 2030.

A key part of the appeal is speed. Each Rechargery site will feature DC fast chargers capable of delivering up to 400 kW, with support for both NACS and CCS connectors, ensuring access for a wide range of EVs.

Beyond charging performance, IONNA is also focusing heavily on the overall experience. The Rechargery concept goes beyond a traditional charging stop, incorporating features like overhead canopies, improved lighting for nighttime safety, and access to amenities such as restrooms, food, drinks, and even driver lounges at select locations.

By leveraging Circle K’s existing retail operations, the companies are aiming to turn charging stops into more convenient and comfortable breaks for drivers.

“We are honored that Circle K has recognized IONNA as a leader in the industry and entrusted us to serve their customers with the same care and commitment to excellence that they show now,” said Aaron Wolff, IONNA’s COO. “Circle K’s scale, customer focus, and quality of location make them an ideal partner as we rapidly expand high-power charging where drivers already want to stop.”

Circle K, which operates more than 7,300 stores across the U.S., sees the partnership as a way to quickly scale its EV charging presence while enhancing its core business.

“Partnering with IONNA enables us to scale high-power charging quickly at locations drivers already trust—combining fast, reliable charging with a great food and beverage experience. This partnership is an important step in preparing for the future, delivering not just charging but a complete retail experience that supports our customers on the go,” said Håkon Stiksrud, vice president of global eMobility at Circle K.
