Current Taxi returns to Victoria after nearly two year hiatus

The all-Tesla taxi service Current Taxi has returned to Victoria, British Columbia nearly two years after the company ceased operations on Vancouver Island due to impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Current Taxi started in Kelowna in 2017 as British Columbia’s first all-electric taxi fleet. The company quickly became popular leading to an expansion to Victoria in November 2019, providing taxi services in a fleet of Model S, Model 3, and Model X vehicles.

Unfortunately the financial impacts of the pandemic were too much and the company was forced to shut down operations in Victoria in mid-2021. Current Taxi maintained their provincial licenses to operate in Victoria, and hoped to return once the tourism and employment markets recovered.

That time has now arrived and Current Taxi has returned to Victoria, the company confirmed with Drive Tesla.

Their website has yet to be updated but customers can now reserve a ride in one of 8 Tesla taxis through their convenient mobile app up to 30 days in advance. The app allows you to select your pickup location, track the vehicle as it makes its way to you, and also pay for the trip.

The best part is that Current Taxi charges the exact same rates as a regular taxi, so you won’t be paying extra to ride in style while supporting sustainability.
