Bay Area Police Department’s Tesla Model S runs low on power during chase

Fremont PD Tesla Model S 85

A Fremont California police officer learned the hard way to make sure their Tesla Model S 85 has enough juice for their shift when they lost power during one of the worst possible times – during the chase of a suspect vehicle.

During a routine patrol, an officer spotted a suspicious car, and proceeded to match the plate to a vehicle wanted in connection with a crime in Santa Barbara. The officer then attempted to stop the suspect vehicle, when it took off at a high rate of speed.

Fortunately there were other patrol cars following the suspect that were able to take over the chase, which eventually had to be called off for safety reasons.

The Fremont PD is currently in a 6 month trial testing the integration of the Tesla Model S 85 with their fleet.
