The Tesla Model 3 captured Edmunds’ Electric Vehicle of 2022 for the third time in a row.
While the new kid on the block, the Rivian R1T won the Editor’s Choice award.
2022 was the most competitive year for the Edmunds’ award so far. The Model 3 outlasted several strong competitors, including the Lucid Air Dream Edition and the Ford Mustang Mach-E.
The dominance as the top electric vehicle in the Edmunds’ ratings speaks to the ability for Tesla to keep their sedan relevant in the space, a sentiment shared by Edmunds.
“Our three-time EV winner, the Model 3 still ranks above the rest thanks to its comfortable cabin, fun driving dynamics and Tesla’s excellent charging infrastructure.”
For instance, for the 2022 model year, Tesla added additional range, wireless charging and a power-operated trunk.
The Rivian R1T also impressed the editors of Edmunds. In fact, the they labeled it the vehicle “that has exceeded our expectations and delivered something genuinely new”.
The R1T beat out the Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Dream Edition for this award. The Model S Plaid and Lucid Air Dream packed performance, range and a luxury interior into great overall EVs.
However, the R1T beat the competitors out as it is the first all-electric truck on the North American market, arguably a ground-breaking vehicle for the industry. Earlier this week, the R1T also took home MotorTrend’s 2022 Truck of the Year award.
