Tesla CCS1 adapter gets release date and price in South Korea, hints at North American release too

After a more than six month delay, Tesla has finally provided a release date and pricing information on the highly anticipated CCS1 adapter.

The new charging adapter will only be available in South Korea at first, but Tesla has dropped a hint that it might come to North America very soon.

According to an email sent to owners in South Korea and shared on Reddit, the CCS1 adapter will first go on sale on Tuesday, October 19 2021. Only those with “preferred preferential purchase tickets” will able to buy it on that date.

No further details were provided on how those tickets can be obtained, but the email did say more information will be announced separately.

One week later, on October 26 2021, the adapter will go on sale on the Tesla Shop. The email states this date may change based on how long the adapters take to clear customs.

Perhaps the most important part of the email was the price – ₩299,200 (tax included), which works out to $313 CAD or $250 USD. That’s about half the price of the CHAdeMO adapter which retailed for $602 CAD or $530 USD.

Tesla CCS adapter now certified in South Korea but delayed until later this year

The email further explains it will only be compatible with the Model 3/Y, and that further testing will be needed before a separate adapter can be released for the Model S/X.

Tesla CCS Adapter in North America?

While there was no mention of a North American release for the adapter, if you have been keeping an eye on the Tesla Shop there has been a recent change that indicates it might also arrive in Canada and the U.S. soon.

Late last week the CHAdeMO adapter mysteriously disappeared from the online shop. It is not uncommon for the product to be out of stock, but it has always remained listed and marked as such.
