Earlier this summer Tesla added Model 3 Illuminated Door Sills to its online shop, but strangely only did so in Europe. After a few months of waiting, they have now been added to the Canadian and US stores for the pre-refresh Model S, Model 3, and Model Y, but they don’t come cheap (h/t: @kkvr2823).
This new accessory has been available from aftermarket accessory providers for several years, but Tesla’s version is a little bit different. The door sill plate features a “long-lasting” battery with LEDs that are activated by a magnetic switch.
That has some advantages over the aftermarket options – no additional wiring required and a longer battery life, making it unnecessary to recharge it through a USB port.
If you want the Model S/3/Y Illuminated Door Sills, you’ll have to shell out $320 CAD or $250 USD. They are available in silver and black, and as is customary with the Tesla Shop, that price includes shipping.
Each kit comes with 2 sill plates, 2 magnetic switches and mounting plates, and all the necessary tools for an easy installation (instructions included).
