Kelowna Cabs’ new Tesla taxi is a hit with customers

Like many taxi companies lately who are beginning to realize the advantages of a Tesla for high-mileage industries, Kelowna Cabs in British Columbia recently added a Long Range Tesla Model 3 to their fleet.

Since launching the EV in November, Roy Paulson of Kelowna Cabs says the Tesla has been the envy of both other cab drivers and passengers alike (via Castanet).

One of the features most enjoyed by customers so far is how quiet and comfortable it is to ride in a Tesla compared to a traditional gas powered taxi. “It’s a very nice ride, a very comfortable taxi. I could stay here the whole day. We can start driving to Vancouver!“, said Anita, a customer of Kelowna Cabs.

While enthusiastic about his new Tesla Taxi, Paulson is a little misguided on the technology behind the vehicle. “When you take your foot off the brake, the sensors in the car automatically realize that you do need to stop, and it also shows the sensor right on the screen … that tells us there’s a car in front. So, technically, you don’t have to use the brake pedal. For safety, of course we do, but you don’t have to.

Kelowna Cabs currently has a fleet of over 70 vehicles, and plans to add more Tesla’s soon. Another cab company from Kelowna, Current Taxi, operates a fleet of all Tesla vehicles, and recently expanded to Victoria, British Columbia.
