Polestar has officially announced the start of production of the Long Range Single Motor (LRSM) variant of its flagship SUV, the Polestar 3, which is now rolling off the production line at the Volvo-owned plant in Charleston, South Carolina.
The Polestar 3 LRSM boasts a certified range of up to 563km (350 miles) of EPA and NRCan rated range, or 706km WLTP, making it one of the longest-range electric SUVs in its class. The LRSM achieves this feat using the same 111 kWh battery as its dual-motor counterpart, but the increased range comes from rear-wheel drive efficiency.
The Polestar 3 LRSM can support 250 kW DC fast charging, which can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes.
This single-motor SUV is no slouch in the performance department. Its rear-mounted electric motor delivers 220 kW (295 hp) and 490 Nm (361 lb-ft) of torque, enabling a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration in 7.8 seconds. That acceleration will be smooth on almost any road surface thanks to Polestar’s advanced suspension system, featuring Hydraulic Rebound Stops (HRS) and Frequency Selective Damping (FSD). Brembo brakes, standard across the lineup, provide improved stopping power.
Designed to be the entry-level Polestar 3, buyers still enjoy high-end features, including an impressive 14.5-inch LED infotainment display, tri-zone climate control, wireless smartphone charging, and a suite of advanced driver-assistance systems such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Pilot Assist.
The LRSM can be configured with a choice of six exterior colors, five interior trims, and four wheel designs, including a new 21-inch alloy option. Buyers can also enhance their vehicle with the optional Pro Pack, featuring a Bowers & Wilkins 25-speaker audio system with Dolby Atmos, Bridge of Weir leather upholstery, and 1.3-megapixel LED headlights.
Pricing for the Canadian market will be announced soon. The Long Range Dual Motor Polestar 3 starts at C$93,200, so expect a figure in the mid-$80’s for the LRSM.
