Tesla MegaFactory in China is 45% Complete, Says Grace Tao

Tesla’s China Megafactory is nearly half complete, says company senior executive, Grace Tao Lin. Tesla remains on track to complete the factory by the end of this year and begin production in the first quarter of 2025.

The company is once again showing super-fast speed in China. As Grace Tao announced via her Weibo account, Tesla has made great progress in building its Megafactory for producing utility-scale energy storage batteries. In honor of the anniversary of the Lingang New Area, the executive said the factory is 45% complete and is once again trying to reach “Tesla speed.” She also shared two photos: one showing the current construction progress and another showing what the Megafactory will look like once it is finished.

Grace Tao’s message translated from Chinese:

“Over the past five years, as a ‘Hong Kong vagabond,’ I have been on a wonderful tour with Tesla Gigafactory and experienced the rapid changes in Lingang.

Now Tesla is also accelerating the construction of its first super energy storage factory outside the US. The progress has reached about 45%, aiming to reach ‘Tesla Speed’ and ‘Lingang Speed’ again. Looking forward to the next five years!”

Considering that it is only August, it seems that Tesla still has plenty of time to complete the Megafactory and put it into operation on time. According to the plan, it should be completed by the end of this year. Once completed, the Megafactory will be Tesla’s first battery factory outside the US.

According to the plan, production should begin in the first quarter of 2025. As soon as production is ramped up to full capacity, Megapack—a large-scale commercial energy storage system—will reach 10,000 units per year, with nearly 40 gigawatt-hours of energy storage capacity. A similar factory has been built only in the US.
