France records record BEV registrations in June, with Tesla leading the way

France set a new monthly record in battery-electric vehicles in June. The 33,280 BEV registrations in the month was a 52 per cent increase in year-over-year registrations and represented 65 per cent of overall ZEV registrations. In fact, BEV vehicles represented 18 per cent of all French new-car registrations in the month.

Leading the way in terms of brands and vehicles was Tesla. The Model Y had 4,335 registrations, and the Model 3 took second with 3,966 cars. The surge by the Model 3 is a bit of a surprise as this is the first time the vehicle is back at the top end of the sales chart in two years.

The top five EVs in June were:

  1. Tesla Model Y
  2. Tesla Model 3
  3. Fiat 500e
  4. MG4
  5. Dacia Spring

The top twenty can be found below per Autovista24:

Although some things can change, the Model Y is well on its way to securing the top-selling EV in France in 2023. The closest competitor is the Dacia Spring, but the Model Y may be out of reach after another strong month and surging demand across the country.

The only question is, will the Model 3 be able to catch up and place second, giving Tesla a potential 1-2 finish at the end of 2023 in France?
