It was an exciting day for twenty-five Pioneer Academy students as they got to tour Tesla’s Giga Nevada factory earlier this month. The students took a charter bus from Carson City and got a personalized tour of the massive factory from Tesla staff.
It started with a quick introduction and an overview of the different motor types built at Giga Nevada. The field trip included the following:
- A Giga Nevada tour
- Opportunities to chat with Tesla employees about the company
- A demonstration that included a brief history of the plant
- An opportunity for students to build their miniature motor with a battery, magnet and coil of wire.
Pioneer Academy partnered with Envirolution to organize the field trip for the students. The company is a Reno non-profit that aims to connect students with career and educational opportunities in the technology and sustainability niches. (via CarsonNow)
This is not the first high school to go through Giga Nevada, thanks to a partnership with Envirolution. The company regularly works with high schools throughout Nevada to set up tours of Tesla and other major tech companies. They also host a variety of K-12-focused events, including their Project ReCharge, a formal hands-on STEAM project.
