Tesla sees strong sales in Thailand after launch

Tesla Thailand has seen a strong response from Thai customer after opening up Model Y and Model 3 reservations on December 7.

According to Tesla, more than 5,000 units have already been ordered since December 7. (via NationalThailand)

The Model Y starts at 1.95 million baht, while the Model 3 starts at 1.75 million baht.

To reserve a vehicle, Tesla requires customer to put down a 4,000-baht deposit, or about $160 Canadian.

The company is still in talks with the Excise Department of Thailand over the government’s EV subsidy programme.

Under the current scheme, EV automakers can see significant subsidies and cuts on import duties of:

  • 150,000 baht for vehicles below two million baht
  • 800,000 baht for vehicles selling for more than two million baht

Currently, Tesla is not part of the subsidy program, but it looks like there is a good chance they will join ahead of the first deliveries.

Tesla confirmed that the first batch of vehicles would arrive in Thailand in February.

However, they did not confirm the exact shipping window, and how many of each model will arrive in Thailand.
