After a quiet few months Tesla CEO Elon Musk provided new details about the Cybertruck on Thursday, teasing its ability to double as a boat.
We have seen many videos over the years of Tesla vehicles easily handling flooded streets and roads. After seeing those videos Musk has said the Model S can float well enough to turn into a boat, generating thrust from the rotation of its wheels.
Musk added the disclaimer that this isn’t recommended and if it is going to happen, should only be done for short periods of time.
With the Cybertruck Musk is now saying the same thing, although it appears its ability to double as a boat will be enough for it to cross some bodies of water.
In an unprompted tweet on Thursday morning, Musk said the “Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas that aren’t too choppy.”
Giving an example of its potential abilities, Musk added that the Cybertruck needs to be able to cross the channel to reach South Padre Island from the SpaceX Starbase facility in Boca Chica.

Musk usually provides these kinds of teasers when asked by fans on Twitters, so given this was an unprompted tweet it suggests we are hopefully getting closer to seeing the final production version of the Cybertruck.
As of the most recent update from Musk back in June, Tesla has finalized the design of the Cybertruck, and it is still set to enter production in mid-2023.
With AI Day teaser images showing the Cybertruck, we might get to see the production Cybertruck tomorrow.
