The small community of Seaforth, about a 2 hour drive west of Toronto, Ontario, is considering building their first electric vehicle (EV) charging station.
At a recent city council meeting, councillor Ray Chartrand suggested the installation of an EV charger in the Huron East municipality after seeing a presentation from a local environmental group on the benefits an EV charger would have on the community.
Part of the reasoning is the rapid adoption of EV’s in Canada, and by not having a charging station EV drivers have no reason to visit or drive through Seaforth. It was also mentioned that Seaforth is in the minority by not having one, as many surrounding communities already have multiple EV charging stations.
Council was receptive to the idea, and staff will begin researching potential locations for the charging station, as well as the possibility of a cost-sharing agreement to help ease the cost of constructing a charging station.
