FSD Beta wide release for all North American owners coming this year: Elon Musk

If you missed out on qualifying to receive the Full Self-Driving (FSD) Beta software in Canada, it looks like you might be able to get it later this year without the need for a high Safety Score.

While on stage at the Cyber Rodeo event last night, Musk said FSD will be available for all customers who have purchased the $10,600 CAD/$12,000 USD option in North America before the end of 2022.

“The Tesla Autopilot and AI teams have done an incredible job building real-world AI, and we’re able to move to wide beta for all self-driving customers in North America this year,” Musk said.

Tesla first released the software to a very small number of testers in October 2020. The program expanded slowly over the following months, before a wider expansion in the US about a year later.

To qualify for that wide expansion, owners had to use the Safety Score tool, which looks at five driving metrics to determine if you are eligible to download the software.

At first a perfect ‘100’ was required, but that has since dropped to 98, with the promise that it could be released to owners with a score as low as 95 soon.

As Canadians owners are aware, FSD Beta was expanded north of the border last month to those with a 98-100 score.
