GMC Hummer EV reservations top 65,000 pushing deliveries for new orders to 2024

General Motors has revealed more than 65,000 customers have put their names on the list to receive the GMC Hummer EV in either the pickup or SUV form.

According to Duncan Aldred, global vice president of GMC, about 95% of customers are converting their reservations to actual orders.

In what is becoming a familiar response from legacy automakers venturing into the EV market space for the first time, Alfred says both the number of reservations and the number of customers converting to orders have exceeded their expectations.

As a result, the automaker is working to increase production to meet the demand and deliver the massive electric trucks on time.

“Production’s actually slightly ahead of plan and we’re putting things in place now to actually expedite that as well, so we can deliver these reservations quicker than we originally thought,” he told CNBC.

With such a large backlog of orders, a new order placed today likely won’t be delivered until 2024, Aldred explained.

“We’re doing all the studies on that and we’re confident we can go a lot quicker than we originally thought, but it still means a reservation now probably means delivering in ’24,” he added.

GM hasn’t revealed how many Hummer EVs it has produced and sold since delivering the first unit off the production on December 31, 2021.

A recent NHTSA recall for faulty taillights shed some light on the number covered just 10 vehicles built prior to January 20, 2022.
