For the first time Tesla officially has three Gigafactories producing and delivering cars.
On Wednesday CEO Elon Musk was at Giga Berlin to deliver the first 30 Model Y Performance SUVs to their lucky new owners.
The special delivery event was held inside the factory, where the 30 cars were lined up each with a custom license plates to signify their spot in line.
Here is the first car, “GIGA 001” being driven off with the new owner in the passenger seat.
Of course, it wouldn’t be right if Musk didn’t celebrate the first delivery with a dance, just like he did at Giga Shanghai.
This day has been a long time coming. Tesla was originally hoping to open Giga Berlin in June 2021, but several delays and a change in plans pushed the opening into 2022.
Gigs Berlin will now ramp up and aim to produce 500,000 cars per year in its first phase.
Giga Berlin will also be the first factory for Tesla that will not only produce cars but also battery cells.
The Giga Berlin battery plant is still under construction but expected to open later this year.
