Elon Musk to be transported in Tesla Model Y made at Giga Berlin when he visits Germany, hopefully later this week [Update]

Tesla CEO Elon Musk was supposed to land in Germany over the weekend to visit Giga Berlin.

The trip was reportedly to be made ahead of the factory’s official opening.

Unfortunately that didn’t happen. According to a source familiar with the plans, Giga Berlin wasn’t quite ready to receive Musk, so the trip has been postponed and will hopefully take place later this week.

When he does arrive, Musk plans to be picked up and transported around during his stay in Germany in two Model Ys made at Giga Berlin.

The cars will be Performance Model Y’s, which the factory will begin production with very soon. Dozens of these cars have already been spotted outside the factory in recent weeks.

News of Musk’s plans were first reported by Toque News, who received the information from a Giga Berlin employee.

Drive Tesla was able to verify the claims through an independent source.

UPDATE 3:05pm PST: Musk has replied to our story on Twitter, saying his trip will actually be in mid-February. He did not however deny that he will be driving around in a Giga Berlin Model Y.

The automaker has submitted all the necessary paperwork to begin production at Giga Berlin, but is still waiting to receive final approvals from German officials.

Based on recent updates to the website, Tesla believes those approvals will be coming very soon and they anticipate starting deliveries of made-in-Germany cars in March, if not sooner.
