Tesla China has recalled nearly 200,000 Model S and Model 3 vehicles in China due to the trunk and front hood issues.
The company issued the same recall in North America yesterday.
China’s State Administration for Market Regulation noted that there are two defects. The first could affect Model 3 backup cameras. The second could affect Model S hood latches coming loose causing the hoods to suddenly open while driving.
The recall in China affects around 19,700 Tesla Model S cars which could have latch problems with their front trunk.
In addition, it includes around 180,000 Model 3 vehicles, almost 36,000 of which were imported, that could have damage to the rear backup camera.
Tesla estimated that only 1% of Tesla Model 3s included in the recall contained the problem. So far, there is no connection to the backup camera issues with the Model 3 and any incidents in the United States.
Tesla China will complete an inspection at a Tesla facility and then make any necessary repairs to the vehicles on-site and for free.
This is not the first recall from Tesla China this year. In June, Tesla recalled more than 285,000 vehicles in China over issues with Autopilot software.
Instead of going into the dealership to fix the problem, Tesla issued an over-the-air update to all affected vehicles.
Tesla did not comment on the ongoing recall.
