Brandenburg environmental association drops lawsuit against Tesla, clearing the way for Giga Berlin to receive final approvals

After failing to win their lawsuit against Tesla and Giga Berlin, the Brandenburg Nature Protection Association (Naturschutzbund – NABU) and the Green League have decided against taking their case to a higher court.

The two environmental groups sued Tesla earlier this summer over their preliminary permits for Giga Berlin. Those permits allowed Tesla to install and begin testing of manufacturing equipment inside the factory.

The Berlin-Brandenburg Higher Administrative Court ultimately rejected the application and recently ruled against them.

After considering their options on whether to take their case to the higher Constitutional Court, they felt that even though they had a fair chance at winning, the costs were too much of a burden for their limited resources, reports Business Insider.

The abandoning of the lawsuit clears one hurdle in Tesla’s long lasting quest to receive the final approvals necessary to begin production at the factory later this year.

On a recent visit to the factory earlier this month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said he hoped those final approvals will come in October, just in time for Oktoberfest.

Regardless of when the approvals are issued, Tesla will be hosting a “Giga Berlin-Brandenburg county fair” on October 9. Tours of the factory will be open to the general public, but priority will be given to nearby residents.
