Rivian is scheduled to begin deliveries of its first electric vehicle (EV), the R1T pickup truck in just a matter of weeks in the US. As the date approaches the company has been releasing details about its service program, and even its own in-house insurance program.
Today Rivian released more specs about the R1T including its exterior dimensions, frunk, storage capacity and some of the more hidden features of the electric truck.
Rivian R1T Frunk
EV enthusiasts always enjoy a good frunk, and owners of the Rivan will not be disappointed. For the first time the automaker has shown the frunk in action, as well as providing dimensions for it. The R1T frunk measures in at 25.4″ long and 54.8″ wide, with a maximum depth of 22.7″, providing a total volume of a massive 11 cubic feet. For comparison, the Model S frunk is 5.3 cubic feet.
Inside the frunk there is LED lighting, 12V and 110V outlets, a cargo net, and a safety release. The frunk itself is also powered for hands free operation.
Rivian R1T Truck Bed
The R1T truck bed is a decent size, but not the biggest when it comes to pickup trucks. It has a maximum width of 51.1″, which goes down to 50.2″ at the wheel arches. It measures in a 54″ long with the tailgate closed. That number grows to 83.6″ when the tailgate is open, which can automatically open or close through the Rivian app, in-vehicle controls, or with a button on the bedrail.
It features two 11oV outlets, LED lighting, and an air compressor. There are also 8 tie downs to ensure the cargo stays where you put it.
Hidden underneath the bed is a lockable storage space. No dimension were provided, but it is big enough to fit a full size spare. It is weather proof, and has a drain plug so the space can be filled with ice and used as a cooler.
Rivian R1T Tow Hitch and Towing Capacity
The R1T will include a hidden 2″ Class V hitch received rated for 1,155lbs of tongue weight. Wiring for a 7-pin connector for trailer lights and brake controls is also included.
Rivian says with this equipment and its adaptive air suspension, the R1T will be capable of towing 11,000lbs.
The R1T and R1S electric SUV are set to be handed over to the first customers this summer. Deliveries are expected to start in Canada a few months later in November.
