Through a partnership with various levels of government, a total 40 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are coming soon to Surrey, British Columbia.
The new Level 2 chargers will be installed at 10 different community centres, recreation centres and pools across the city. The locations have been strategically selected to close gaps in the current Clean Surrey Electric Vehicle Charging Network.
“Increasing the supply of public charging ports within the city will give residents greater assurance to drive and own electric vehicles, helping Surrey move towards a more sustainable future. I’d like to thank the federal and provincial governments for their partnership and funding on these projects, as we work together to build back a cleaner and better B.C,” said Doug McCallum, Mayor of Surrey
The Government of Canada is contributing $274,054 towards the project, and the Government of B.C. is adding another $228,356. The City of Surrey is investing $182,727, for a total project cost fo $685,137.
Surrey currently operates 33 EV charging stations. All of them are currently available to the public free of charge.
