Tesla China sees steady sales growth in October

Sales of the Tesla Model 3 in China saw a steady increase in the month of October as Giga Shanghai begins exporting vehicles to other markets.

According to the latest data from the Chinese Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla sold 12,143 Model 3 vehicles in October. This equates to a more than 7% increase over September sales, where 11,329 vehicles were delivered to new owners.

While the numbers might not seem impressive to Tesla critics who say sales in China have peaked, it is important to remember that Giga Shanghai is now exporting a large number of the vehicles they produce to other markets.

Last month the first shipment of over 7,000 Model 3’s were shipped from Shanghai to the Belgian port of Zeebrugge.

Given the facility’s current production rate of 250,000 vehicles per year, or 20,833 per month, it appears as though Tesla was able to sell every single car they made in October.

Recently revealed plans indicate Giga Shanghai is going to see a serious ramp in production next year. According to industry insiders, Tesla is planning to build 550,000 vehicles next year, made up of 300,000 Model 3’s, and 250,000 Model Y’s.
