After first showing off an autonomous charging device in 2015, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has reaffirmed today it will make it out of the prototype stage.
Once you arrive at your home, usually the first thing you do after exiting your Tesla is plug it in to charge overnight, ensuring you have a “full tank” the next morning.
With the eventual goal of a fully autonomous fleet of vehicles, the one aspect of having an electric vehicle that would still require human intervention is the charging process.
To automate as much of the Tesla experience as possible, CEO Elon Musk teased way back in 2014 the company was working on a charger that automatically connects to the car, moving like a “solid metal snake.”

The company then released a video teasing the new charger in 2015, but both Tesla and Musk have been unusually silent about it in the years since.
Today, Musk responded to a user on Twitter and simply said “Yes” when asked if we’ll ever see the snake charger.

With the amount of time that has passed since the prototype was first revealed, hopefully we see the snake charger sometime soon. When it does eventually arrive, it likely won’t be cheap as the standard wall charger sells for over $600 on Tesla’s website.
