Q3 2020 record deliveries within sight according to leaked Elon Musk email

With just over a week to go until the end of the third quarter, a leaked email from Tesla CEO Elon Musk shows the company is close to a record number of deliveries.

Tesla largest number of deliveries in a quarter was during Q4 2019, when the automaker delivered 112,095 vehicles around the world. Deliveries last quarter were down at 90,891 units, but still strong considering the two month shutdown of Tesla’s facilities in the US due to the coronavirus.

Based on the leaked email obtained by Tesmanian, it appears Tesla has a good shot of breaking their Q4 2019 record.

“We have a shot at a record quarter for vehicle deliveries, but will have to rally hard to achieve it. This is the most number of vehicles per day that we’ve ever had to deliver. Please consider vehicle deliveries to be absolute trop priority. It’s also extremely important that we keep factory output as high as possible over the remaining 10 days. This is vital for the California market.“

To hit their annual guidance of 500,000 deliveries, which the company reiterated after the Q2 results, Tesla will have to deliver over 320,000 vehicles in the second half of 2020. Split evenly, that’s 160,000 vehicles per quarter. Early estimates are calling for around 144,000 deliveries in Q3, and more than 187,000 in Q4, which would be enough for the automaker to hit their target.

Like many end-of-quarters pushes before, Tesla employees are working hard to manufacture and deliver as many cars as possible. This can be seen by the high number of car carriers spotted over the last week across Canada and the US bringing cars to their new owners.
