Dongfeng Motor Corp appears to be prepping for a full Canadian launch, launching a Canadian website featuring its various models and a prompt to become a distributor.
The site is very bare-bones, and the company notes that the models are undergoing homologation and regulatory approval. They also say on the site that configurations, specifications, and launch dates will be announced once approval is granted.
Alongside the site launch, Dongfeng also showed off its six-car lineup at an event in Montreal’s Old Port.
The six vehicles are:
Voyah Free – Premium Plug-in Hybrid SUV
BOX 01 EV- Compact Electric Crossover
EÏ€ 007 EV- Electric Performance Sedan
EÏ€ 008 PHEV- Premium Family Plug-in Hybrid SUV
Vigo EV- Electric SUV for daily driving
MHERO 817- Plug-in Hybrid Off-Road SUV
Per Julie Mazorra Fernandez, director of North World Industry, who is the planned Canadian distributor for Dongfeng, the Vigo SUV and Box hatchback will be the first Canadian launches. Both of these EVs will be priced below $35,000.
With a planned launch in 2027, Dongfeng is a little behind other Chinese EV companies in entering the Canadian market. Geely is already here and has shipped its first 18 Lotus Eletre EVs into the country for waiting customers. BYD is launching in 2026, opening 20 dealerships across the country, with a focus on Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Calgary.
These cheaper EVs could be the tipping point for Canadians, who, according to recent surveys, continue to report that the high entry cost of EV ownership is a significant barrier.
