Tesla offers free upgrade on Model 3 and Model Y inventory until February 2

Tesla is giving buyers an extra reason to purchase a Model 3 or Model Y from existing inventory, introducing a limited-time incentive that includes a complimentary vehicle upgrade.

According to an email sent out on Wednesday, existing inventory Model 3 and Model Y vehicles now include one free upgrade, with the discount already reflected in the listed vehicle price. However, the deal is short lived and is set to expire on February 2.

The incentive is designed to encourage buyers to choose from Tesla’s existing inventory rather than custom-ordering a vehicle. This is especially the case in Canada, where the company is guiding customers to existing inventory to avoid configuring a new Model 3 that would be subject to tariffs and priced 20% higher than normal as a result.

However, despite the email saying both Model 3 and Model Y are eligible for the discount, that only appears to only be the case in the U.S., as a review of Canadian inventory by Drive Tesla shows it only applies to the Model 3 north of the border, and seemingly only on demo vehicles.

While Tesla does not allow buyers to mix and match multiple options, the promotion automatically applies the most expensive available upgrade on a qualifying vehicle. That can translate into savings of up to C$2,600/US$2,000, depending on the configuration, when picking a vehicle with a premium paint colours, upgraded interior, or larger wheel option.

This incentive also stacks alongside other offers currently available in the U.S., including low financing rate options and competitive lease pricing.

While the free upgrade offer is relatively modest compared to past incentives, it could still be enough to sway buyers who were already close to placing an order—especially those browsing inventory vehicles for quicker delivery. With the February 2 deadline approaching and inventory availability varying by region, interested buyers may need to act quickly to secure both the vehicle and the included upgrade.
