Rivian’s New Spin-Off ‘Also’ To Tackle Micromobility EVs

Rivian has launched a new brand called Also, a micromobility startup with $105 million in funding. The startup aims to bring high-quality, electrified scooters, bikes, and three-wheelers to market by 2026.

The company’s flagship product, expected to be revealed this fall, will have a bike-like form factor and leverage Rivian’s technology stack—including custom-built motors, software, and digital interfaces—adapted to a much smaller scale. According to Rivian founder and CEO RJ Scaringe, who will hold a seat on Also’s board, the first product will feature two wheels, a screen, a seat, a battery, and onboard computers, offering a familiar yet elevated micromobility experience.

Rather than flooding cities with shareable e-scooters or short-lived concepts, Also aims to provide personally owned, high-tech vehicles designed for daily utility—think grocery runs, school drop-offs, and short commutes. The company plans to release a range of models with different form factors and wheel counts, all built on a common, modular platform inspired by Rivian’s skateboard-style EV architecture.

“For the world to fully transition to electrified transportation, a range of vehicle types and form factors will be needed. I am extremely excited about the innovations developed by the Also team that will underpin a range of highly compelling micromobility products that will help define new categories,” said Scaringe.

Also’s ambitions extend beyond the North American market. After launching its first product in the U.S. and Canada, the company plans to expand into Europe by the end of 2026, followed by purpose-built models for Asia and South America. The startup will also look to commercial avenues, with potential applications for last-mile delivery in urban centers where traditional vans are being phased out.
