Elon Musk promises better automatic wipers, seat heating and defrost in next major software update

While we still wait for the second half of the holiday software update, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is promising some improved features in the next major update.

Musk made the comments on the weekend while responding to the Tesla Owners of Austin club, who was asking about phasing out manual seat adjustment buttons.

Canadians, particularly those on the West Coast, know all too well the shortcomings of the automatic wipers. Even with improvements over the years, they still sometimes don’t turn on when it’s raining, or turn on full speed in only a light drizzle.

The reason for their less than optimal performance compared to other vehicles is the lack of a rain sensor. Instead, Tesla uses the cameras to determine when to turn the wipers on, and to determine the speed of the wipers.

Musk provided no details on how seat heating or defrost will be improved. If you have any idea, let us know in the comments below.

Responding to the original question, Musk also said automatic seat settings is something that should be possible. He added this could be achieved by analyzing the occupants mass distribution on the seat.
