Jay Leno jumped into a Lucid Air Dream Edition on his YouTube channel, Jay Leno’s Garage. Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson joined Leno for the driving portion of the episode.
The 34-minute video included a test drive and a design discussion with Derek Jenkins, the Senior Vice President of Design and Brand at Lucid.
Leno likes the car’s look and praises Lucid for using American labour and manufacturing for the vehicle.
The discussion with Derek Jenkins detailed the vehicle and his journey to end up at Lucid. Jenkins worked as a designer for internal combustion engines, but he grew tired of designing these cars and knew the industry was at the cusp of something big with EVs.
Jenkins notes that it is different designing an electric vehicle compared to a traditional gas engine. The form language of the car needs to showcase the vehicle strengths, so showing that in the design is always a challenge.
Jay Leno loves cars and this in-depth conversation drills down on Lucid and their Air sedan. If you are interested in the vehicle or want a relaxed conversation that is not filled with marketing and sales jargon, this episode is certainly a must-watch.
