The Boring Company submits proposal to build underground tunnels in San Antonio

The Boring Company (TBC) has submitted a proposal to build twin underground tunnels in San Antonio, Texas.

Referred to as the Alamo Loop, the proposed project would connect San Antonio International Airport and the downtown area.

At an Alamo Regional Mobility Authority (Alamo RMA) meeting on Wednesday, the board accepted a recommendation to approve the proposal and move to the interview stage of the process.

TBCs proposal was among five received by the Alamo RMA in response to a request for qualifications and proposals for a “proposed approach to design, construction and possibly operation of a transportation project connecting the San Antonio International Airport Vicinity to Downtown San Antonio.”

In its submission, TBC proposes to build a 9-mile long tunnel 30 feet below ground to transport passengers in Tesla cars. The proposal was ranked the highest by Alamo RMA officials, scoring 91.6 points.

TBC estimated the total project cost at $300 million.

According to the San Antonio Report, the next step will involve verifying the cost estimates with an engineer’s report and to evaluate the environmental impacts of the project.

No specific timeline for the project was given, but Renee Green, director of public works and county engineer, said it will happen “fast.”
