Tesla has officially started construction on what will be the world’s first true V4 Supercharger station. Located in Campbell, California, the site will feature 16 V4 Supercharger posts, but setting it apart from other sites with the latest charging pedestals, Tesla will also be installing V4 cabinets for the first time.
Tesla first unveiled their V4 Supercharger posts back in 2023, and the company has been gradually rolling out this technology across North America, Europe, and Asia since then. However, all of these sites have relied on legacy V3 Supercharger cabinets to supply power. While the stalls themselves were designed for higher capacity, the V3 cabinets capped maximum output at 250 kW, before Tesla later updated them to peak at 325kW for compatible electric vehicles (EVs).
Then Tesla unveiled the V4 cabinets (the big white boxes that you see at Superchargers) late last year, enabling charging speeds of up to 500 kW for cars and up to 1.2 MW for the Tesla Semi. Not only were the V4 cabinets going to provide a charging boost, they were also billed as more efficient and with a smaller physical footprint that streamlines the installation process.
Tesla said they were planning on building the first true V4 station with V4 cabinets in Q3 2025, and right on schedule the company has started construction on one in California.
This site was first discovered as being the first true V4 station back in February. Permits were issued earlier this month, and now the site is finally under construction, according to Supercharger aficionado Marco on X.
