Tesla broke ground last month on a massive 168-stall Supercharger called ‘Oasis’ in Lost Hills, California, a project that would easily make it the largest Supercharger in the world. As it turns out, this isn’t the only massive Supercharger set to be built along the Interstate 5 corridor between San Francisco and Los Angeles, as Tesla has filed plans to build a second equally massive Supercharger a little further north in Coalinga.
According to plans uncovered by Supercharger sleuth Marco, this station will feature 168 stalls, equaling the total planned for Oasis. This Supercharger is set to build at 20098 W Sommerville Lane, about 1 hour north of Oasis, which is currently a vacant lot next to a gas station and convenience store, as well as Subway and Baja Fresh restaurants.
Just like Oasis, this Supercharger in Coalinga will also feature a few trailer-friendly stalls on the east and west sides of the station. The plans also show this Supercharger will have a solar canopy covering the vast majority of the stalls, but the plans indicate it will be just 151.32kW in size.
This will be paired with a 3.8 megawatt (MW) battery energy storage system (BESS) of Tesla Megapacks.
Both the solar and energy storage figures are significantly smaller than Oasis, which will have an 11 MW solar installation including both a ground-mount solar array and solar canopies above the charging stalls, and 39 MWh of energy storage.
Unlike Oasis, which is set to open in mid-2025, we don’t know when this Coalinga Supercharger will open as permits have only been recently filed.
