A Tesla Model S Plaid owner in Quebec has set another new quarter-mile record, crossing the line in a blistering 8.56 seconds, more than two-thirds of a second faster than the advertised quarter-mile time from Tesla.
The record was set by Miguel Roy at the Napierville Dragway in Napierville, Quebec. If that name and location sounds familiar, that’s because Roy has a history of setting record times with his Model S Plaid in Napierville. In 2022 Roy was able to get his Plaid down the track in just 8.77 seconds at 162.55mph (261.60km/h), which at the time was the fastest time in the world.
Since then Roy has visited the track numerous times, with his most recent visit 2 months ago setting a new benchmark with a time of 8.61 seconds.
Not content Roy visited Napierville again this past weekend, and with the interior gutted and some modifications to provide more power from the batteries to the motors, broke his previous record, crossing the line in 8.56 seconds. Interestingly the speed at the quarter-mile was slightly slower than his run two years ago, at 162.33mph (261.24km/h).
This new time puts the Model S Plaid within the vicinity of the Rimac Nevera, which is currently the fastest production car over the quarter-mile with a time of 8.25 seconds.
Roy says getting close to the Nevera, a $2.2 million hypercar, is a possibility, but is “close and a long way [away] at the same time.” Roy explains that he feels he can still get some additional power to the wheels with his software modifications, and still shave off a few pounds with “a few weight reduction possibilities.” However, it might be a hill too big to climb as he said he doesn’t think he’ll be able to close the gap.
