Elon Musk has said he will look into reopening factory tours for all Tesla owners. Tours were previously available to all owners at the Fremont factory, but the program was suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has yet to officially return.
Before the pandemic, Tesla allowed owners to take a free factory tour at Fremont once per year. Under this program owners from around the world flocked to the California factory to see the assembly lines that built their car. The 60-minute tours saw owners guided through parts of the factory in an electric cart/trolley, similar to what is used for tours at places like Disney Land and Universal Studios.
However, when COVID-19 hit, Tesla, like most companies, was forced to limit public access to its facilities, including suspending factory tours. Shortly after restrictions were lifted, Musk said the program would restart “probably in a few months,” but that never happened.
In 2023, Tesla factory tours returned, with the company offering them at Fremont, Giga Texas, and Giga Berlin, but limiting them to owners who redeemed referral credits, a move that was not well received after the tours previously being free for all owners.
Since that version of the referral program has since ended, there are no longer any opportunities for owners to get a factory tour, but that may soon change. When asked by a listener in a X Spaces session titled “Election Discussion” if they could get a tour of Giga Texas by purchasing a Cybertruck, Musk said he will look into the program returning for all owners.
Given the amount of attention Musk has been giving to the election in the US, and with it being election day, it is unlikely we will get an official confirmation of the tours returning any time soon, but we hope that announcement will come soon enough.
